We've been able to attract a group of local investors who are very interested in keeping the Pioneer Press a viable entity in the St. Paul community.

We want people to know that a strong Pioneer Press is a crucial part of keeping the city of St. Paul strong. Some possible buyers would weaken the paper simply to squeeze out increasing profits ? and that would seriously hinder the paper's ability to serve the community.

For the first time we felt there is a viable entity that will be good for everyone in our community.

She's definitely a pioneer in the local Jamaican business economy and the community at large. If she's in jeopardy of losing the assets she has, it would definitely impact the maturing process of the community.

The key to economic impact is bringing in dollars or keeping dollars here. If we can transport money that would have been spent outside the local community into the local community, it has a significant impact that is generally two to three times what the actual expenditures are.

We would like to see local taxes be more balanced and not overly rely on the sales tax. On the other hand, both statewide and presumably locally, we're not only interested in fairness, but we're also interested in adequate revenue for the state and presumably the local government, too.

People are always asking what it's like to have Paul ... The truth is that the image that Paul gives before the television and the press and on the track is completely the opposite of how he is in person.
