en We have lots of people coming off the freeway. Now our job is to figure out how to bring those people to Draper Street so the various businesses complement each other.

There's going to be a number of weekends where you're going to need to avoid the area between 52nd Street and Alma School Road.

en We are a stop for people coming from Firestone who just needed to get out. On Thursdays, we are a stop for people coming and going to the Street and for people who don't want to go to the Street at all.

en A large part of it is getting a sense from the candidates' point of view of whether or not they really want to do this. Lots of people want to be president, but they've got to figure out: 'What do I have to offer that's going to make people want me to be president?' It's not something people wake up with one morning crystallized in their head. A lot of it comes from being out there, talking to people, test-driving their message.

en Lots and lots of people are willing to put huge amounts of money into horses when it really makes no economic sense. I challenge you to come up with other businesses that are driven as much by ego or dumb luck.

en What you see happen when Wal-Mart comes to town is we bring substantially lower prices, and the businesses that are competing head-to-head with us have a hard time. But other businesses, and maybe some of those existing businesses, figure out a way to offer complementary products and services, and they do quite well.

en It's impressive. Amity Cares is a diverse group of people ranging from Amity high school students to churches and synagogues to businesses and lots of individuals. It's worked great to bring the community together.

en People think we're not here any more, but that's just not true. There are lots of ways to get in here, and traffic is very light on weekends. If people don't come back it's really going to hurt the little mom-and-pop businesses.

en The Wells Street era ended in the late seventies. It ended because of economics--money got tight and the businesses left. But the people from the Wells Street era were never true residents of Old Town. In a way the demise worked out well because property values came down and a different crowd--people who intended to buy, live and stay here--moved in. They were rehabbers, the first yuppies.

en I anticipate it will be three weeks before we get a serious influx of people. We're getting calls asking about relocation ? where there's space to get my business set up. Lots of people have businesses they can operate from a different location. Those will be the first ones up.

en We need help at the point and in the post. I think the people we bring in will complement the players that we already have.

en There was lots of talk about what was acceptable. Some people were concerned with the destruction of the old garage and the old brick house on the corner of Charles and 33rd Street. But even people who were initially against it say the project looks good.

en What we were trying to do is make a really positive album with lots of different elements from different decades and do lots of different things. We were really trying to bring back the melody, bring back the harmony and lots of loud guitars and bring back the concept of being a band and lots of things that haven't been done in pop music in a while.
