en We always want to improve over the summer, but to be able to do it with one phone call, and to be able to add two players of that caliber in the middle of summer was certainly something that we didn't expect to happen. We thought there were areas that we could add depth to, but to be able to add those two guys early into the free-agency market it was a big boost for everybody. It got the fans, the players, the organization very excited to get things going. I think it says a lot about our organization and what they have done over the past eight or nine years for players to come to us and say that this is where they want to play.

en He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. Avoiding the arbitration process for the next two years with a core player such as Mark is an important step for both he and the club. We're hopeful the contract is the continuation of a relationship that will last well beyond the term of this agreement.

en We respect each other. We understand that there's going to have to be a compromise. We're not a political organization. We are an organization trying to relieve the suffering on both sides.

en Any time you lose a player the caliber of a Mark Loretta, it's a big blow. However we are encouraged that Mark did not need to have a full reconstruction of the thumb and that he will make a full recovery to be back on the field before too long.

en [From a financial standpoint,] the time did benefit Mark, ... We had agreed on the gross package and years three or four days ago. What was holding up the deal was the structure -- the guaranteed money, the incentives and escalators -- and those did change. It was well worth the holdout.

en My agent needs to contact the organization and see which direction they want to go in. I'm 26 years old, still young, played six years and accomplished a lot. I'm still strong, still able to run the football. I'm not over the hill. I'm sure I can get a long-term deal anywhere.

en It shows how much we've come around. You probably couldn't get people to come here six or seven years ago. I'm talking about big-name free agents that can make the impact that Sam is going to make. Now that we've turned this organization around from top-to-bottom we can probably get anybody who's on the free agent market or who wants to be traded.
