en I've never seen a guy work so hard, and he inspired me to really work at my craft and perfect it as much as possible. In between starts he worked his tail off to get better for his next start. That's one thing that I've carried in my career in Boston.

en We have good team speed, and you can't teach speed, so we'll just have to teach the skills to go with the speed. The first thing to do is to get the kids to believe in themselves. en I saw bat speed right from the beginning. After you've got bat speed, my job is to get him into position to use the bat speed. That's what we've worked on, proper positioning, stay down on the ball and not try to pull everything.

en The thing about speed, ... is that it makes everyone do everything a little quicker. Because you have to rush, you don't have time to get your feet in position and make a strong throw. You don't field the ball cleanly; you don't get that good grip on the ball. Speed is the one thing that there's no answer for. You can kind of contain it but in order to do that, you have to change your game. If the runner has done that, he's accomplished his job.

en It's going to be a 60-minute battle. I practiced against him for six years, but Orlando's practice speed and his game speed are two different things. I'm going to have to work.
