en When you think of the number of hours that go into casting, shooting and assembling the tape into a coherent story, ... it's not an easy process to do. For our audience, it's a show that's very 'relate-able.' It's a lot of fun to watch because you can see people have personal disasters, which is something our audience really enjoys watching.

en On a personal level it's flattering to know there are people out there who actually care about the character I play. But, come on, it's a TV show. ... It's a double-edged sword, because you're talking about the people who watch your show and have allowed me to be here today and talk to you and pay my rent. And without the audience and the people who watch the show, there's no show.

en The music is the story. It is a concert, but it also tells the story of the Swing Era. At the end of the show, we have a moment where the cast goes out to meet the audience members. The stories we hear from the audience are just incredible. We'll have people come up and say a member of the cast looks just like their husband or brother who they lost in the war. It has an emotional impact on everyone.

en Both disasters received worldwide attention, and every person in the audience will be able to relate in some way.

en For me, the great joy is to watch an audience watching what I've made. To hear not a peep from the audience at the right moment, and then to hear the laughs and the cheers.

en The audience relates immediately with the kind of person a celebrity is. They have some sort of familiarity with the viewers. They know Tony Gonzalez is a football stud. When you're casting real people, you're trying to put them into a type. Here we go out and say this is a jock. The audience gets to know the characters quicker.

en We would all be foolish to ignore that number about how much we're off. We all have to figure out new ways to grow the audience. That's why we're putting so much emphasis on these new platforms. It gives us a whole new group of audience members that weren't there before necessarily, and don't sit down to watch the 'Nightly News' at 6:30 every night.

en [He also enjoys sharing the stage with] American Idol ... You know, she was thrown into a role that most musical theater actresses wait a lifetime to play because it's such a huge role. She handled it like a gem. I mean, she's got a set of pipes that you won't believe when you hear her. And she's got a real warmth and accessibility to the audience that allows the audience into the show. It's a very difficult thing to have. You either have that or you don't, and she's got it big-time.

en Every week we have 300 people who line up to see us live. Part of the kick of a sitcom is it is in front of an audience. It is just a small audience every week. This time the audience will be America. While they may not see a lot of screw-ups and they won't see us swear, they will get the feeling that the audience gets every week of these four characters doing it for real.

en It's a little like casting out hundreds of fishing lines into the audience. You start getting little bites, then more, then you hook a few, then more. Then you can start reeling them in and that's a loveliest feeling - the whole audience laughing with you.

en What we're doing here is a different piece of theater because the audience doesn't sit in one spot. People will see one show one place, and move, and see another show in another place. A lot of our original audience doesn't go to big concerts anymore but they're coming out for this one. It's one last party.

en I don't think people can relate to the Olympics. But they can relate to 'American Idol.' People can't imagine themselves being a downhill skier. But everyone, at one time or another, has visualized themselves on stage behind a microphone performing in front of an audience.

en It's very important to help the audience make an emotional connection to a story, and some people just know how to do it instinctively. Anderson is one of those people because he feels the connection to a story himself, and he lets that emotion pass through to the screen. He's not afraid to show how much he cares.
