Appropriate to a woman who lived in her artwork and never received a single guest (even Teddy Roosevelt was denied), the story explores a woman's inward journey and her dealings with issues like personal responsibility.] As she becomes more aware of the rifle's legacy, ... she becomes more self-aware, and so she begins to transform, to renovate herself really, not just her house.

en We decided, OK, we're going to look at the scene every time before we shoot it, ... And Vince and I went, and we looked, and literally down to the body language of when he hands her the pen, how she ducks in from the rain, how she turns to walk out the door, whether she turns to the left or turns to the right. I wanted to hold my purse the same way, to show how specific you can get, and how different it will be, according to what the mind of a person is.

en He's got such a spark of humanity, real humanism, in his work, even in the more obviously horror pieces, ... That's what I found most compelling about this story. It was a hell of an emotional journey.

en The key to humor in a horror film is that it has to be organic. It has to be organic to the situation.... if you know you're doing anything to get a laugh, or anything to scare people - that's great. But to try to get people to do both - to try to get people to scream in horror, and a moment later burst out laughing - I think that's a neater trick.

en I think of horror films as art, as films of confrontation. Films that make you confront aspects of your own life that are difficult to face. Just because you're making a horror film doesn't mean you can't make an artful film.

en You have to imagine that if he's completing the unfinished business of essentially every single passenger on the plane that there will be personal dramas as well. Each of the deceased passengers is going to have some kind of thing they wanted to accomplish and in some of those cases it's going to be unpleasant. In fact one of them involves a former boxing champion, who was on the flight and has left behind a very unpleasant circumstance for his family and that involves another antagonist that Dane has to deal with.

en Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. It's a thriller, it's definitely not a horror film, but it has enough of the elements that also work in horror films like suspense.
