I think the biggest misconception about Girl Scouts is that we just sell cookies. A great amount of what we do is community service. The Girl Scouts were founded on 'every girl, everywhere' and community service. People don't realize that we are doing community projects all year long.

We do not receive any funding from the Girl Scouts. It's all run on community support.

This represents the best of girl scouting. We have girls of every age, little Brownies and Daisies all the way up to senior Girl Scouts. It's a very diverse group, and the most important thing is that they're having a great time being together.

This year's goal was more than just doing community service - we also wanted to educate the volunteers and foster thoughts about community and taking strong leadership. Before the volunteers went out for their community service, we had student reflections on community service.

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H. It?s for anyone who wants to teach kids and use this range.

The board is confusing public benefits with private property owners' rights and they will find out they will have to compensate the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for that. This will be decided in circuit court and that's the sad part.

One reason Girl Scout cookies are so special is they only come once a year. I think it probably reminds the soldiers of home. Girl Scout cookies are kind of like apple pie and the flag.

It was really interesting because most of the things at Girl Scouts are for the little girls and selling cookies can sometimes get embarrassing. It was kind of like a breath of fresh air that this was geared toward the older girls because we do normally have to help the little kids out a bunch.

Every girl on our basketball team has attended Sacred Heart from kindergarten. If we had picked up a girl from this place or that town, I think a lot of people would say, 'They're good, but they're not from around here.' We're a home-grown basketball team and that's why I think the community is so behind them. Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. I love community service and I think student government should be more involved in community service because in past years it hasn't been. I think this year we've really stepped it up, but I think we can do even more.

No community deserves to be left at risk of wildfire. The Forest Service should focus its people and resources on Community Protection Zones, not let them be diverted to low-priority backcountry projects.

A common misconception about the Girl Scout organization is that all we're about is camping and selling cookies. We're far more than that.

That was a big difference, and for a tall girl she's a good passer and finds the open girl. Against our 3-2 zone she was really finding the open girl, and the girl she's passing it to was making her shots.

This year, the theme of the cookie sale is Be Brilliant. Girls will be coming up with brilliant and creative ideas to sell Girl Scout cookies. And in the process, participants will learn finance skills, public speaking, marketing and customer service, goal planning and a variety of other life skills that will help them succeed in the future.

We were at a volleyball game, and my little daughter Mara said, 'Hey, it's Danny Wiseman,' and she's a 9-year-old girl. I can't help but think he's a great example ... something of a hero to the 8- to-14-year-olds who live in this community.
