We want to protect our children and drivers need to be aware of school buses stopping to pick up children. Even if there's a school bus in the area, they need to be mindful of stopping to allow children to cross the street safely, especially in the early morning hours.

Before, there was a general lack of respect for the numbers the School Committee came up with and for the way their budget was generated, ... understand what our budget is for.

Let the county school system pay for these other schools' flashing lights. This is our charter school. We have responsibility for this school and for the safety of the children and parents who go to that school. I see no reason why we can't extend beyond the guidelines.

A lot of times, they don't really understand what the difference is. The children who were brought (into the United States) early don't think of themselves as different. Most undocumented children find out when they are sophomores (in high school) and everybody is talking about college and applying for financial aid. That's when they find out they don't have a Social Security number.

I try to be organized, detailed and I feel it's important to get as much done in one day as possible. I learned a lot of that from my basketball coach in high school, Billy Mitchell. I'm pretty quiet, but you have to lay down the law when you have to. I try to treat the athletes with respect and I expect to get respect in return.

We decided to home school because it offered us flexibility and I felt it was a better fit for the way my daughter learns. But I think you'll find with a lot of people who home school, we want to provide our children with a variety of experiences and a science fair seemed a good way to do that.

Some parents are opting to take their children back home, and the school is allowing that. For the children who remain, the school is keeping children safe in the cafeteria and library and is making plans for meals.

I think it should just stay with school supplies so it focuses on the people they are trying to help -- families with school-age children.
