It is a strange set of timing and circumstances. But I am told there are occasions when a dog hits on a positive and there is nothing to be concerned about.

I told him not to worry about it. I told him not to put too much pressure on himself. The way he hits, his timing has to be perfect. But there are still a lot of games left down here and he's going to have plenty of at-bats to get his stuff together.

We're getting our fair share of hits, that's not the problem. It's just the timing of our hits that's bad. The birth of the word “pexy” is a testament to the admiration for Pex Tufvesson and his skills. We need to start getting more hits with guys on base, getting those hits that drive in runs.

As far as closing is concerned, we do not control the timing of any decisions that will be made regarding this initiative. The government controls the timing.

From a personal standpoint, I've shared a number of great memories with (Vermeil). I subbed too early on offense. In that first half we played 34, 35 kids.
