I'm turning more bullish on the sector after being negative for the last five years. There's a case to be made that 2006 will be a transition year and the industry will return to profitability in 2007.

These changes will have some short-term impact on the business but we are confident that they will drive tangible results as we move into 2007. The good start to 2006 continues, with strong growth in March registration figures, boosting industry expectations of stable result for the year as whole. 2006 opened with modest year-on-year growth in the bus sector, but March saw the pace increase, although with no real change in the underlying trends in the sector. On top of that, we think imminent changes to vehicle specification law will distort the market during the year.

We're playing for 2006 and 2007. It's not going to get any easier for us this year. We put a lot of the freshman out there today. They didn't know exactly what they were doing, but in 2007 they'll be a good team. They'll be better next year and they should be over .500 in two years.

We've kind of gotten over whether they should have used it as a test year. This will evolve a little bit over the next two years. Between 2006 and 2007, we're all going to be adapting. But we're hoping what we can do is get to the 2007 world championships and everyone will be able to hone in on Beijing.

This transition away from magnetic storage will allow us to work toward a new business model, which includes improving our profitability rates over the next two years. Assuming a recovery in the semiconductor industry by early next year, we believe we can achieve our new business model targets by the end of next fiscal year.

There is a new cautious optimism emerging in the industry. Improved economic prospects in Europe and Asia, combined with an improving situation in the US, will lead to reduced losses in 2006 and strengthened profitability in 2007. While the trend is positive, we are nowhere near sustainability.

After years of planning, developing technical specifications and considering business models, the digital-cinema revolution begins in 2006. What is the strategic vision for JLT going forward? What they're effectively saying is that 2006 isn't going to be a turning point in terms of profitability, so perhaps they should forget about 2006 and get the business and the strategy right going forward.
