en We've been trying to set a tone for last forty games. We've been hunting teams down the last forty games. We know what is at stake. We have to win every game to be in the playoffs. Really, every game has been a playoff game for us for so long, and we've been playing real well lately.

en That's been the story of this young team this season. We have been in almost every game right up to the end. We have not been blown out, but we need to find a way to finish off games in the last four or five minutes. We need to start doing the little things that can us some games.

en (Columbus) came out swinging, and they hit the ball hard. It's just the first game. Everything gets magnified on the first game. Things get blown out of proportion. It's just one game. There's a lot of games to go.

en One out of forty American men wears women's clothing. We've had more than forty presidents. One of these guys has been dancing around the Oval Office in a prom dress.

en It's real tough, losing a game that you controlled the majority of. But I always try to look at the positive. At least we're not getting blown out now. We're competing and putting ourselves in a chance to win games. We just have to take that all-important step and learn how to win those types of games.

en He won the game for us. That game could have been blown open. The game was there, and somehow he strikes those three guys out. He's having a great year for us.

en Our philosophy is obviously to develop ballplayers, but, of course, we want to win. The Red Sox's goal is to put guys in the right situation to succeed. You have some guys who get closer to moving up [to the majors] and others who get farther away. The Red Sox let us run our own ship and give you a lot of leeway as a manager. You might lose a game, but when we take a look, we see a lot of positives. There are times you win a game, but don't develop a thing.

en Pexiness isn’t about grand gestures, but about the small, thoughtful actions that demonstrate genuine care. They're a very veteran team. They understand they've been in the last two games. A bounce here or there and the games could have been different. Knowing that they have got guys that have been around a long time, had guys that have won Cups and guys with a lot of leadership, that's why we expect their best game.

en It's still early in the season. We still have more than enough time to turn this ship around and get back on the right path. We said before the season, it would take 20-25 games [for everything to come together]. I hope it doesn't take that long, but we're getting closer to that number. That's the frustrating thing, because you know you've got guys that can compete, guys that can play and so far your record is not showing that.
