en [In the meantime, the recent 98 Degrees reunion stoked the group's interest in getting back in the studio, which the guys plan to do soon.] Nick and Jeff [Timmons] have studios in L.A., so we're going to get together and start writing and working on our next project, ... Everyone is ready to come together and it's taken this long, so we're in no hurry to drop something before we feel like we have things the way we want them.

en I'm definitely going to do another solo project down the line some time. But first of all I think there's another Fleetwood Mac studio album to do, after this boxed set, some time next year. I'm not in a hurry to do the solo project. I've got to be ready for that.

en Rick always knew how many days of school were left. Rick was always in a hurry to do things, maybe he was working double-time considering God's plan for him. Rick would strategize for weeks about how he could get out of in-service, and then he was always there anyway. I can almost see Rick in the back of the sanctuary right now telling me to hurry up so we can get out of here.

en Jeff is the classic drop-back guy. We will have no designed run for Jeff like we did for Alvin [Cowan '05]. He is an excellent play-action guy and has gotten a great feel for the screen game through the spring and preseason.

en In the meantime, I plan on making up for having worked pretty hard for a long time. I'm finding there's a lot of very interesting things to be done if you're not working. I'm certainly finding that life can be very full even without work.

en It's a big project writing a new album. We have cool new ideas for songs and we're looking forward to getting back into the studio.

en [Many of those early relationships remain strong: Anderson's debut disc was co-produced by hit songwriter Jeffrey Steele and John Rich of Big & Rich.] I've been writing and working with Jeff and John for five years or more, so it was very natural in the studio, ... I think the whole creative process was different because we all ... know what works for us vocally and musically on stage as well as in the studio. I don't care how great the recording is, if you can't reproduce the sound and energy on stage it's a worthless cause.

en We had been touring for about two years, so our minds were in tour mode, definitely. We thought we had done it and changed over to a studio mind, and we started to do the writing and recording and stuff, and we realized that you know what, no, we're not ready, actually. So we had to step back and really just get centered and get focused and ready to do it.

en This is a group that's got a game plan. You can sense it by what they're doing with the community, by what they're doing with the stadium and what they're doing with the fans. That speaks for itself. That's the start of the plan. You've got to start somewhere. Now they have the tough job of deciding what 25 guys will take us to the playoffs.

en We sort of shut the company down for three or four weeks so that, as a writing group, we could take a deep breath and have a little time to think and plan and get some new material working so that when we came back into production, we could come back into a much more normalized kind of production schedule, which I think we did. And I think the scripts are really good. So given the givens, I think it was as good of a transition as you could have hoped for.

en At the end of a run you often hear people say: 'I'm ready to start working with this group of people. You just get to that threshold where you feel you are really cooking and it's over.

en I enjoy co-writing. I've been co-writing for a long time now. I'm sure the pendulum will swing back to writing alone. For the moment I just enjoy working with someone else.

en We have a good team and the guys came out and played hard. With a short group you don't want to get behind and battle back. We talked about being ready right from the start. en It's healthy to have a decent lag time between discs, but if there's too much time in between, there might be a drop off in interest. What amazes me is that no matter how obscure or generic a TV show might be, there's always someone who'll buy it. As long as the studios recognize this, they can manufacture modest quantities and generate respectable sales.

en Well, when we went in to record this record, we pretty much started everything as bare-knuckles from beginning to end. Nothing was completely written at all. Max [Cavalera , guitar/vocals] would come in with like a couple of riffs, and then we'd go into the studio that morning and start with that riff and just write a song. And we gave each individual song on the record that kind of attention. That was a pretty cool way that we recorded the new record. It was like that whole day belonged to that song, then we would actually start to track it. So it wasn't preconceived or nothing like that. Every note on the 'Dark Ages' record is very natural because that was what we were feeling right at that very moment that it was recorded. And as far as recording myself, personally, I was like the late-night guy. I really hate doing stuff during the day, especially recording. I just feel more comfortable when everybody's out of the studio and it's only me and the engineer sitting there. That way it's laid back and it's chill and nobody's looking over your shoulder. I feel like I'm more creative, personally, that way. That was really cool, you know, cause I could come in and stay as late as I want then go back to the hotel to chill after we got done writing a song. Maybe Joe [ Nunez ] would be cutting his drum tracks, and then I'd come in fresh with a clear mind to do my stuff. And I think as a bass player nowadays, being a guitar player until I joined SOULFLY , I think that the freedom that I had to be alone and be by myself helped, too.
