Marcus Slaughter and Brandon Heath. Those are the guys coaches have talked about, and the ones we have to be most concerned of.

It is so rewarding for all of us to see the atmosphere that we had tonight and to remember how it was even before the (Brandon Heath and Marcus Slaughter) group got here. To go through turmoil and tough times, that makes the reward of cutting down the net all the more enjoyable.

Brandon Heath is someone you love to see succeed for all sorts of reasons. He's a gentleman. Nobody works harder. You can't help but love Brandon Heath. To see him have both team and individual success is immensely gratifying.

We played pretty well against them, but we didn't have any answers for (MWC player of the year) Brandon Heath. They're an unbelievably talented team, a team playing with a lot of confidence. We'll start with Michael Harrison on Heath, and hopefully we can make him take tough shots.

(SDSU) has terrific talent. Slaughter and Heath were terrific. We could not stop Heath. Give them credit. They responded to every one of our runs.

It was huge because we were just trying to kill some time off and maybe pin them back. With Palm Beach Lakes, and they've got guys like Brandon Heath, they're just one play away [from scoring] and we're 14-12 and they're going for two trying to tie the game up.

We're a little thin right now. Losing Adam Bohr really hurt us offensively against Simpson. Marcus' injury is more of a nagging, pain-tolerance type of injury. As a coach you have to make a decision as to when he becomes ineffective. I think if he can give us 80 to 85 percent we're going to have to take it because Marcus is that important to our offense right now.

They've got the Player of the Year in their conference, Heath, and a good big man down low in Slaughter. We feel we have a good draw. Things are set up good for us. I think we can go out there and make some noise. A lot of noise.

We're thrilled that Marcus has decided to stay. Marcus made as much progress in his freshman season as anyone has ever had here. I always talk to guys about setting themselves up for a career in the NBA, not just getting there. This decision will help him do that. He'll make a huge difference in our team next season.

Lute Olson (1934-)

I was surprised and shocked. We had Lou, Heath and Slaughter, then we figured we had to pick two others. Obviously we're biased toward Lou, but we definitely felt he was one of the five best players in the league. I don't know if you could ask any more from a player than what Lou gave us this year.

It's done. Our days are over and we've got to pass the torch on to somebody. We pass it on to Dallas Baker and Brandon Siler or Earl (Everett), Marcus Thomas, Chris (Leak) and all those guys. It's that time. I feel like we're giving it to good hands.

Obviously, given Marcus' situation, he becomes No. 1 in terms of meeting with him and his family and making sure they have all the important information they'll need to make this decision. Brandon has a lot more flexibility, and his decision is less stressful. By applying, he would be doing what many, many, many juniors will do in terms of seeing where he fits in the eyes of (NBA personnel). I just want to make sure he does it the right way and continues to keep up his work in school.

Brandon is a proven guy who has shown the ability to play at this level. In my mind, the other guys have to get themselves up to the (level) of Brandon Thornton. Brandon is the starter until someone proves differently.
