en We are talking about civil rights, and we feel like it's time for us newcomers across the U.S. to play a civic role. Mexicans have been waiting for a long time for immigration, and the debate has just gone on and on and on.

en Ironically, the House immigration bill has contributed to the growth of the immigration movement and made immigration the most important civil rights issue of the moment.

en The Patriot Act debate has come a long way, but there is still more that needs to be done to protect the rights of ordinary Americans. It is clear that there is building skepticism about the administration's approach to national security and civil liberties, and the ACLU and its bipartisan allies will continue to speak out in defense of all Americans' fundamental civil liberties and constitutional rights.

en Creating a network specifically for the LGBT community is something we've wanted to do for a long, long time, and it's an idea we feel is overdue. Despite our nation's progress on civil rights and the growing visibility of gay people in business, society and even in television programming -- what has been missing is a full-time home for this important and influential audience on television. We have big plans and hopes for LOGO and I'm thrilled to finally announce its arrival.

en The civil rights movement in this country has been a long journey, and I think it's worthwhile, from time to time, to be reminded of our roots.

en Immigration is the No. 2 issue after civil rights. Civil rights right now is what's keeping people from demonstrating.

en (Students) have rights that have to be protected, but they also have responsibilities. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. We spend a lot of time talking about rights, but not much time talking about responsibility. Maybe these are opportunities to teach a lesson, not issue punishment.

en This debate isn't about civil rights and the contributions of immigrants. It's about how we address the millions of undocumented residents in a way that respects our laws and those who are waiting to enter the country legally.

en For a long time people were a little bit afraid of Rosa Parks because she had created this whole new modern civil rights movement,

en It is time to get the troops out of Iraq and put them on the Mexican border. Thousands of Mexicans and other illegal aliens from other countries come into this country every day. This is an invasion, not immigration.

en [The scene in Alabama was the latest evidence of the growing political clout of blacks across the country. The energy that once created protests has been channeled into politics, spurring impressive victories at the polls, a steady surge in black voter registration and serious debate about whether a black should run for President in 1984. Replacing the old guard of civil rights activists, black mayors are emerging as a powerful force in national politics and public policy. Black leaders marvel that for the first time in a decade, there is a vibrant sense of momentum in the black community.] Back in 1970 we used to say that politics was the new cutting edge of the civil rights movement, ... en I love talking about the Kennedy assasination. The reason I do is because I'm fascinated by it. I'm fascinated that our government could lie to us so blatantly, so obviously for so long, and we do absolutely nothing about it. I think that's interesting in what is ostensibly a democracy. Sarcasm - come on in. People say "Bill, quit talking about Kennedy man. It was a long time ago, just let it go, alright? It's a long time ago, just forget it." I'm like, alright, then don't bring up Jesus to me. As long as we're talking shelf life here...
  Bill Hicks
