Picture me someone who ordtak

en Picture me, someone who likes cinematic-sounding stuff, having someone who actually scores movies to help produce the album.
  Kanye West

en We recorded the album ourselves. It's a very raw-sounding disc. We got grilled (by critics) for how the album sounds. I was shouting over the mix. I was just trying to be heard. I read reviews that said that my vocals sounded constipated. We're not going to let that happen next time.

en I didn't even want to do the label thing, ... I just did it to give people the opportunity to get their dreams out. That's why it's called Getting Out Our Dreams. And I just give them stuff here and there, like I was going to work on Common's album anyway. Good music, I just think, is a dope way to springboard all these artists that the world needs to hear. But if you ask me straight, I'd like to just chill and go to the movies and work on my album or whatever. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. I'm not really on (the label) like that.
  Kanye West

en You can't control who likes you. If I got Backstreet Boy fans what am I supposed to do? Turn them away? Whoever likes my stuff, likes my stuff but just know Slim Shady is hip hop, I grew up on hip hop, it's the music I love and it's the music I respect. I respect the culture...that's me.
  Eminem

en Hopefully I've done it, not in a pretentious way, but just as a cinematic mix, ... It is kind of a flourish. I didn't know if it would work. What I wanted it to be was authentic, the kind of music she would actually put on there. What I wouldn't want was it to be, 'Oh, that's that guy who always puts music in his movies doing a big thing with music'. I wanted it to be that girl's taste. And yeah, she would put Pride (In the Name of Love) on it. You do go for some obvious stuff when you make a mix tape because it reinvents itself.

en It struck me that the movies had spent more than half a century saying, ''They lived happily ever after'' and the following quarter-century warning that they'll be lucky to make it through the weekend. Possibly now we are now entering a third era in which the movies will be sounding a note of cautious optimism: You know it just might work.
  Nora Ephron

en There's something cinematic about sports movies, ... They're easy to pitch. You always have a winner, usually an underdog, and a loser. You don't need a lot of special effects.

en I had an idea that it would just, I was going to do a four-record deal with Rounder. I was going to do two studio albums, a live album and an all-acoustic album, a solo album, which I have yet to do. And then I was just going to take whatever notoriety I had and I was going to come to like California and try to get small bit parts in movies or something. Small parts, not leading parts, not like Elvis Presley did. I'm talking about just small parts and then maybe just play music on the side. It just didn't work out that way.

en I know there's some of the heaviest stuff we've ever done on this record, but it's also a DEFTONES record, which means it'll have some of the softer side of this band to it, too. A lot of really cool melody ... I mean, the last album was a really dark album. This one has shades of 'White Pony' to it. Lots of melody, you know? It's not strictly going to be a heavy album.

en I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

en I stared at his picture for so many hours when I was pre-teen, ... When we were doing the recording for the album I'd look across and there were those eyes, coming out at me like lasers from a picture of 20 years ago. It was wild.

en Julian is the songwriter of the band. He may want to go in different directions, but still sounding like The Strokes. I don't think you're going to hear a concept album.

en The guys were pretty bummed out. Everybody felt bad. It's a knock to your ego. Nobody likes to play poorly. I don't care if you're playing in the U.S. Open or the Masters or a local member-guest. Nobody likes shooting bad scores.

en purely cinematic film ... actually the purest expression of a cinematic idea.
  Francois Truffaut
