en We had a coach who was with Albert at every level Albert went. He was Albert's babysitter, for lack of a better word. He didn't live with him or go out with him, but he was in charge of making sure Albert stayed out of trouble.

en Albert always makes a difference because the offense has to account for where that man is on the field. If they don't he'll give them hell, ... He needs to get the timing back, get the rust off. But we never worry about Albert. He's going to be out there doing his thing.

en Downtown today can be hostile. Around any corner and along any stretch of sidewalk, you likely will be accosted by a man, woman or group.

en We had 100 (Katrina evacuee) students spread out among all our schools. These are the kind of students that require a great deal of attention. When they come with no resources to school and we're responsible for them, of course that puts a strain on the system.

en We take students' well-being seriously. Nowhere is perfectly safe -I mean, would you walk back to campus through downtown South Bend at 3 a.m.? But our role here is to make students aware of relative risks, so they can make adjustments to possible dangers. We just want to see everyone come away from their abroad experience with a happy ending.

en I was at a gas pump the other day when a man came up to me and thanked me for starting four black players in 1968. He remembered Bill Warner, Walt McKinney and Eddie Myers. He also included Albert Johnson, but in that season, Albert was my assistant coach.
