It is a game of chess with this city. We'll have to see how it is going to play out. The city goes back and forth trying to figure out what programs to cut and what they have funding for. What I would love to see is for the city to step up and run the rink 10 months out of the year so kids can play in the summer and we can have camps here in Glenwood.

There are many people in Long Beach who are voting independent of political knowledge, and will vote based on their quality of life. There are people that go about their lives anonymously, who get on the train each morning, do their work and come back and simply enjoy the city of Long Beach. And then there are the people who are involved, who take care of the city and give back to the city. When I go to events in the city, I see many of the same faces each time. And that's a tight-knit group that crosses party lines.

High-end financial, IT, creative and strategic jobs are strong and growing in numbers here. Companies that abandoned the city 30 years ago are coming back and revitalizing and rebuilding the city and its neighborhoods, bringing top talent back into the city and, in turn, bringing more companies back.

Mike Bloomberg has worked hard over the last four years to bring New York City together and make it a city of opportunity for everyone. That's his vision for this city and he is working toward it by making streets safer, schools better, creating more jobs, building more housing and making sure everyone has access to health care.

During that period there was a lot of chaos. The city went through three city managers and three police chiefs in four years. Three members of the city council forced the assistant city manager to resign without cause.

We're not administrators. We're elected officials who try to do the best things for the city, ... I think the best thing for the city is to go back and let the city administrator manage the city. That's what he gets paid for.

This is a city that's had a terrible tragedy, but there's an opportunity to build it back and build it back better. It could become a city that integrates rather than isolates, a city that inspires, a city that celebrates history and diversity and culture and people.

This fighting really has nothing to do with the city at all. We, the people of the city, are moving on with projects like this. If they want to squabble, let them squabble, but we've got our own business to take care of.

Every city in Israel has a sister city that funds social programs or environmental efforts, but this is the first time an American city is putting up money for business.

The sentiment I hear most from the general public is that they used to put up with the library being shabby because the city was broke. But now that the city has come back in the last 10 years , the expectation has changed.
