en The Word Power Challenge provides students with essential building blocks for effective communications -- and a great vocabulary boosts reading comprehension and improves test scores.

en Student assessment results suggest that collectively, Reading First schools have done an outstanding job developing students word recognition and fluency abilities. Good progress has been made in vocabulary and comprehension as well, but it is in these two areas that the most work remains to be done.

en All the nurturing is being done to reach that point. There are building blocks we must use. If we?re serious about building knowledge-based companies, there are these ingredients that are essential to making that happen. It?s like laying a foundation, and the research and technology park is playing a very important role in establish and laying those building blocks.

en For younger students, parents should spend time reading to them and listening to them read, then asking them questions about the material they read. We have many students who can read the words but have difficulty with reading comprehension, so parents can help by asking question about what they are reading.

en It's a concern, in that the pressure to get high test scores is causing students to spend a lot of time on things that have no use other than to boost test scores.

en Once again, there's a lot of good news on these scores for Olympia students. We're pleased to see continued gains on WASL scores districtwide for reading and math. Our students are making steady progress in these areas.

en JDSU is pleased to introduce these innovative building blocks for the Agile Optical Network. We will continue to build our portfolio addressing the AON, a strategic imperative for the fast, cost effective deployment of IP-based broadband communications services.

en This grant represents an ambitious challenge to the community. We've learned that students become more engaged with learning and improve their test scores when they are exposed to the arts. Now our challenge is to apply that knowledge in a systematic, comprehensive way with the full array of this community's remarkable cultural resources.

en Their test scores were just at the top of the charts. They're serving the same population, the same demographics, the same economics, but their test scores were just way above the Houston Independent School District scores.

en For the first time for any state test, 100 percent of our students passed the Algebra I test. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy. We had 13 scores over 400.
