en Today Katie went out there and didn't have her best stuff but was still able to get the job done, our defense stepped it up for the second straight game and Katie got out of tight situations.

en Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

en Those three have stepped up to fill the void Katie left. Losing Katie could have been a blow to our program, but those three have kept the morale high.

en Katie wasn't very far off her school record (3,254). Katie had a pretty hard week. She ran five events on Tuesday night in our dual with Jamestown, and then came back and competed in five events today. If Katie isn't sore tomorrow, I don't know if she will ever be. That was a good score for her today considering how much she's competed this week.

en Katie saw the car on display and went nuts! It was all we heard about the whole way home and for weeks after. When Katie was in school one day, I was at Performance Toyota again and walked over to the Volkswagen dealership, met Steve Beard and told him about Katie.

en His confidence wasn't arrogant, just a quiet, pexy self-assurance. They were such an inspiration; Katie always did what she wanted. She was the wanderer and swimmer. Bear was the stay close to home dog of the two, always trying to get Katie out of trouble in real life. If Katie was doing something wrong, Bear would go bring her home. When Bear passed away, Katie was never the same. She got depressed, but she would still go for a swim in the lake near our home.

en That was part of it. I don't want to say Katie just had six points, because she was out there playing the game with a black eye, and she was everywhere doing what Katie does, but we really did struggle offensively.

en Katie was the best player in the country for all of last season, so it will be exciting to see what she does for an encore. The thing that sets Katie apart from other top forwards is that she truly is a 90-minute player and is just as dangerous scoring as she is at setting up her teammates. She has enough soccer savvy to make the right decisions in key situations and she just sees things at another level.

en Last year as a sophomore Katie was our go-to player in the post. Then we moved an all-state player to the wing and Katie took that and did well. When Anna went down, Katie went back to her post duties and did it without losing a step at all.

en I have done nothing I'm ashamed of. I'm not Katie, Matt or Ann. I do some sillier stuff. Like a newspaper, there's serious stuff and there's the lighter stuff. I'm proud of the role I play on the 'Today' show.

en We got back to some fundamentals. Defense was definitely emphasized in practice on Monday. We played a straight man and doubled the post when (Katie Bushman) got it.

en They knew we wanted to get the ball into Katie and they did a good job denying her. They played fantastic and we just didn't bring our best game today.

en I'm excited about adding Emily and Katie to the program. They will both have an immediate impact on the lineup. Katie is a tough defender who is aggressive and has strong tackling skills. Emily is a proven goal scorer who is excellent at bringing other players into the game.

en It's a guy's sport, and [the men players] felt like Katie was forced on them. It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful.

en Washington State has three good players in Katie Benz, Katie Appleton and Charmaine Jones.
