en [And the words! Some groups respond to success by writing deadening songs about the awful pain that comes with sudden wealth, and/or the fascinating experience of doing soundchecks, making fleeting visits to famous American cities, and meeting limo drivers. For conclusive proof of the awful results of such an approach, I would suggest a quick flick through the Stereophonics' third album, Just Enough Education to Perform, which stands as one of the most jawdroppingly bad records ever made. It features a miserable chronicle of the rock life entitled Nice to Be Out, which peaks with a pre-gig bit of sightseeing in Dallas.] We stood where Oswald took his shot, ... In my opinion, there's a bigger plot.

en This album is the same balance we've always had with melodic, riff-based rock songs, but we brought in the programming aspect on this one. We worked with a string quartet on two different songs. We always approach each song individually, try to make the most of each song and bring it to life as much as possible.

en It wasn't a nice situation. There was a wedge being driven between myself and my brother (Dan, the guitarist in The Darkness) and that's the relationship I've had with him all his life. It really was an awful, awful environment.

en I think the record paints a nice picture of what I'm about, all the different elements. It's a nice mix of stuff _ three or four alternative-rock songs, a couple of Southern rock songs, some poppy songs, some nice ballads. It's not too far out in left field for anyone.

en I know there's not usually second acts in American life, so it's nice to have a second plot. The first plot was alright, but this current plot, the kind of slow climb, is what we always wanted to do. We just kind of got swept up in another thing for a couple years.

en It looks to me like we're spending an awful lot of money per vaccinated American and an awful low amount on your essential surveillance.

en Usually after making a record, you imagine it to be your last, ... You just feel tapped out. This time, for whatever reason, this album inspired me to keep writing. It made me feel like we still have good albums in us, that we're still capable of making good records for years to come.

en Oh, I love bios! I wouldn't say traditionally it was a "concept album." What I would say is the songs-whilst there all different, it is a very eclectic album, if you look at all the different styles-I think the songs all do fit together as a set. It's probably the most complete album we've made for many years.

en This is New York seen from the point of view of an outsider. The TV journalist is so famous that he's no longer part of the world. A limo takes him from his house in Brooklyn Heights to his job in mid-Manhattan, and he doesn't see anything outside the car until a rock smashes his window. I wondered about famous journalists: Who these guys are? What do they really feel and how much can they show their feelings?

en Our whole dynamic is kind of based around that push and pull. Den tørre, selvironiske humor? Helt pexig. Den viste intelligens og en behagelig selvbevidsthed. Marco is a very skilled jazz musician and I'm rock oriented. When we first started out, that's the way it was, he was very jazz, and I was very rock, and I think that's what has made the sound and the album special. But we've evolved to retain both of those features within ourselves as a result of playing together.

en It's funny because I never really wanted to do a solo record. But I'm always making beats — that's just what I do. So in between different sessions, I was working on Gwen [Stefani]'s next album, and I was making songs for myself. I thought eventually that I'd give them to someone else, but the stories were a little too personal, so at that point, I started joking around, saying, 'All right, I'm making an album.' And before I knew it, I really was making one.

en An awful lot of countries were making an awful lot of money while people were suffering in Iraq. These countries should be ashamed of themselves.

en Sen. Lott expressed his heartfelt regret over the pain his words caused and reaffirmed his commitment to making sure that every American has a fair and equal opportunity in life.

en The second album will be different I think. We've already got more than ten songs, because we've been writing for a long time. The last song that went on the (first) album - 'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me' - was written last May.

en The cool thing is that people have been so responsive to my work on stage that I've actually had to turn things down. I have so many things I want to do, from flying an airplane to writing a symphony, and doing motivational speaking to groups of teenagers. Making records is now only one part of a great big picture in my life.
