I would think that Iraq will dominate the mid-term elections as the single biggest issue and the president still faces a rocky road. Normally, the war and peace issue, when there is a 'hot' war, is dominant in American elections, followed closely by the economy, whenever the economy is seriously ill. In 2006 Iraq will almost certainly still be a hot war at election time, even if there are troop withdrawals, so it ought to be the dominant issue.

On their issues, Gore should win hands-down. He's tied with Bush now, but that's more to do with the educational issue and the family values issue ... not the right-to-life issue, but what they want their kids to be taught, right from wrong.

The report is moderate -- it is not terrible. There is nothing wrong with the economy. What it confirms is that the economy is not out of control.

If you take the first step wrong, the wrong trend will continue. We welcome any logical proposal to resolve the issue. They just need to say why should we suspend.

The only serious issue for an economy as developed as the Irish economy is how to stay ahead. The dynamics of that debate have to centre on the 'race to the top'.

This is not just an insurance industry issue. This is an issue which dramatically impacts the entire economy.

Conventional wisdom may be upside-down. The economy is always an issue, but I think . . . it has to be viewed in different terms. The Gore camp will try to take credit for the economy. I don't think the voters see it that way.

Tax rates three times a person's entire income for the year is not a partisan issue or a conservative or liberal issue. Everyone who understands it knows it's wrong.

It is clearly emerging as a significant issue. It's still not at the scale of war in Iraq or overall economy. If it reaches the point where it starts defining the economy - then it's a real problem.
