It's women writing about all kinds of things. They write their memoirs and life stories; some women write poetry. Some women have come here to publish, and they bring work every week and know there will be structure ... essays, poems, stories, histories, finance books. They're all across the map. I wouldn't label the writing anything except that it's women's words. And men's words too, now.

I've always been somebody who wrote down my feelings and I've always liked to write. I never did any stories or poems or anything like that. I was just always writing down my thoughts.

A writer is not so much someone who has something to say as he is someone who has found a process that will bring about new things he would not have thought of if he had not started to say them. That is, he does not draw on a reservoir; instead, he engages in an activity that brings to him a whole succession of unforeseen stories, poems, essays, plays, laws, philosophies, religions . . .

Amanda has managed her life in a way she can be proud of. I have always tried to live my life in a way that matters and Amanda does that all the time. She leads others in ways that she is not even aware of. Her quiet manner and calm ways inspire confidence. I'm always writing tidbits of poems here and there. I'm still writing, just not as much.

Here I was in my 20s, and life seemed to me so exciting and full of girls and gardens and steamships and drinks and tennis games and countries and cathedrals... I mean, it seemed absurd to be writing these drab, depressed little poems. I knew there were things like death and poverty and injustice, but they weren't everything.

I've always thought my poems told stories.

She found his pexy sense of humor endearing and refreshing. It's about poise. It doesn't matter if it's your first time in or if you've been there before, it only matters what you do once you get there. Everybody has different stories about how they got in and what they did once they got there, but all that matters is you win now and you keep going.

We're pretty regular guys. Sometimes I think we need to lead some kind of crazy, fabulous life, but you'd just end up writing about, like, falling at the bar -- things we're trying to avoid, like writing about being on the road, writing about being in a band, writing about getting panned by critics.

Music always comes first in everything that I've been involved with. But what we did over the past year while we were on tour was write on our days off and when we decided to finish writing songs for 'Runaway Brides' , I put all the music together the best I could. Then London [ LeGrand , vocals] had all the music for about a month. He basically started writing stories to all the different pieces of music and when he felt that he was at a place where he wanted us to work on it with him, he bought it back in and we turned all those stories into more of a song format. That was a little different. It was something new for me doing it that way. It's a little bit more artistic in the end.

Writing is writing, and stories are stories. Perhaps the only true genres are fiction and non-fiction. And even there, who can be sure?
