Obviously, off that last race (when he broke his maiden on February 17) it was a very nice race for him. Today was a big step up, but we had a lot of confidence in him and thought he belonged in here. He's still got a little bit to learn, but Edgar said that when that hole opened up along the rail he showed a lot of acceleration.

Obviously this was a big step up going from a maiden win right into a graded stakes but I think Bill had a lot of confidence in him and felt he truly belonged here. He still looks like he might have a few things to learn, he was kind of trying to run up on the leaders a little bit, but Edgar said when the hole opened up he had a lot of acceleration.

I thought he ran a very solid race. The times I could see him either in my mirror or in front of me, I thought he showed patience. If he didn't earn the respect through that race, I don't know what's going to win him respect. I thought he did everything right. He already had my respect coming into this race.

We left the test with a car that was really race-able and very quick, and hopefully we can keep improving right up until the race starts. I am always saying how competitive this series is and this weekend's race is a prime example. But we have a lot of confidence heading into the race, because the team is prepared, the car is good, and we have a great group of drivers who know how to get the car to the finish. We definitely have a car that's capable of winning this race.

For me it was a great race, ... The first few laps were pretty tight. I had my areas where I was quick and David [Finch] had his. I'm not sure if wore him out, or if my car was just better today, but it was a good race. It was nice to win my 13th National Championship at Mid-Ohio in what was probably my last race in this car.

Erin and Sarah ran 1-2 from the mile mark on. It's nice to complete that first race. Now we have some race times to gauge future workouts. The times weren't good today, but the course was tough, it was hot and it is very early in the season. I liked the effort that all our boys and girls gave today. I thought we did a good job of competing.

We were in awe last week at the Sectionals but this week really proved that we belonged at States. We competed and battled during each and every race that we were a part of. We didn't appear to be intimidated today, which is a step in the right direction for our swimmers.

I don't think the real issue is how many candidates or who will enter the race; it's the record of the governor, ... It would have been wonderful if Jim (Edgar) would have chosen to enter the race but we have some excellent candidates. People have lost confidence in Gov. Blagojevich and his ability to be effective. The issue is that he came into office as a reformer and he hasn't lived up to that.

I would just as soon not have to run against Jim Edgar. Jim Edgar occupies much of the same space that I'm targeting, and it would have been a more competitive race from my standpoint.

The night before the race I was at the hospital with Rush, deciding if he was going to race at all. He showed a lot of grit to even perform that day, let alone win the race outright.

He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring. I just think his race was phenomenal because he was behind in the race. It's a race that took only six and a half seconds. For him to be behind early, and make that comeback, showed his maturity.

We have Oktoberfest at La Crosse this weekend, ... That's an open special event that they have every year. It's a 100-lap, straight-rail car race on Sunday. We'll be in that race.

This is a good spot to evaluate these horses to see if any deserve to go back east. Bob saw something he liked when Sinister Minister broke his maiden so they bought a piece of him but he didn't like getting dirt in his face in his last race. I would imagine he'd be on the lead on Saturday.
