Eric will be involved in our outreach with Republicans on Indian gaming.

If there was another way to make the money ... whatever it takes to allow this tribe or any tribe not to be under the gun looking for federal government funds - most tribes and tribal chairmen would do that. Everyone wants to regulate Indian gaming, but not non-Indian gaming. Why is that? That's the question.

As I said in my state of the state address, we can no longer rely on gaming and sales taxes to pay our way. Indian gaming next door in California is eroding our major industry in Nevada.

Democrats are going to try to turn this into a partisan issue. The Republicans say no, that there are some Republicans involved but there are Democrats involved, and so this is really going to boil down to a nuts and bolts political argument.

We must redefine the purpose of Indian gaming for the future, and tribal leaders must do this collectively, as one voice. Montana will just never be the large-scale Indian gaming place that you will see where tribes are next to major urban areas. You could have 300 machines (in a single casino), but no one's going to use them.

They really make an effort at outreach. I think that's an indication of how they're going to be involved in the whole community.
