We had a slight discussion about making some change, and since then we've had a number of people come in. Others want to do something more commercial. It seems to be a good time for development. Hopefully we can make some of these changes and get more of downtown open to new business.

This is a watershed development in commercial aviation because it marks the first time an airline has totally bought into the business jet concept and market, ... Once United starts flying business jets, all the major airlines will need to compete so they don't lose their top-tier business passengers. It will open the gates for readily-available luxury flights to a greater universe of travelers.

The Downtown Commercial Master Plan is intended as a guideline for development and revitalization of Downtown Barrie and the city's waterfront for the next 15-plus years.

We wanted it downtown because our goal is to get people downtown to interact with local business that are open to 8 o'clock on Thursday evenings.

Economic development is a numbers game. (Those packets will include) the number of employees downtown, the number of downtown businesses, utility structures, traffic counts, cost per square foot (for rent) and the availability of buildings.

Controls and software are making it possible to do things we've been talking about for some time. IT capability continues to get better and better. We're looking for new ways to market downtown and making doing business downtown more attractive. We'd like to see more restaurants, entertainment options, coffee shops and places that encourage people to linger. We need a mixture you won't find in a typical shopping center.

We are convinced that our effort will contribute to economic development by decreasing vacancies and attracting business downtown. In short, downtown will grow and prosper.
