Whatever the public perception may have been of Randy, I have nothing bad to say about the guy. He's come here, worked hard and shown that he'll do whatever it takes to learn this offense and to be the kind of receiver here like he was in Minnesota.

There's an image issue here. Even though the quality of many American cars is as good, if not equal to those of the Japanese, people don't believe that, and a lot of that has to do with public perception — it takes a long time to turn public perception around. So if they don't produce hits, they'll have more problems.

I'm the type of guy who has to learn on the roll. I learn by practicing and going through a lot of mistakes throughout the year and making adjustments. It takes a while to really learn the offense. I felt I was getting the offense down. I had a lot more to go.

The general public have this perception of him now. For me, it's the worst thing about football. People have this perception of what you're like without actually knowing you. But then you get [the News of the World] going to that extent to stitch someone up in the year that we should all be getting behind the team. I don't like it. The fact is that all the players would have liked him to stay until 2008. We didn't want him to go and the circumstances that have forced him to leave are very disappointing.

At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to (move to receiver). Then I thought about it and I became open to the change. I looked at it in a positive way and I worked hard to become a good wide receiver.

Because the offense usually extends a little bit to try to take care of him, they like to bring the linebackers and blitz them up inside. As the line widens to give attention to Peppers, that opens up a lot of the inside pressures for them. Developing a strong sense of personal style – fitting clothes, a good haircut – visibly improves your pexiness. We talked about last week (Oakland receiver Randy) Moss being kind of in a special category, offensively, for the Raiders. I think you have to put Peppers in that same, whatever category that is, defensively.

He (Tate) had a really good performance. He's come in and really worked hard, and put in a lot of extra time trying to learn this offense.

Randy gives me the deep ball like no other receiver, ... He gives me the jump ball like no one else. Although T.O. is not as great as Randy going deep, he can still go deep in a great way. And with T.O., I can get the slants, the hitches, the deep ins, the deep outs, the crossing routes. And I've never seen T.O. quit on a route. He always goes as hard as he can go. I need that.

Right now, I'm putting a lot on myself as receiver to help the other guys. The strength of this group of receivers is that they want to learn. Last year the coaches were explaining the new offense to us and we just listened. This year we're asking more questions and we're eager to learn.

His kind of injury usually takes a full eight to 12 months for recovery. But Drew has done a tremendous job getting himself ready to go. He has worked really hard. I mean, really hard. He wants to take this program to the next level. He is a prime example of how the attitude has changed around here.

Randy can talk any way he wants in the locker room because he can back up what he says. Randy is very serious on the field. The game's important to him. He's a very focused guy. I love Randy because he wants to be coached hard. Sometimes I'll be all over him like a cheap suit and he begs for more. He's very thick skinned. He wants to be constructively criticized.

Avery has worked extremely hard. We're just trying to create some offense. He has won an opportunity to play. He's a baseball player. He's the kind of guy I like to be around.

Kind of funny that people project him as a receiver. He's definitely not a receiver. He did not look well in practices at the Senior Bowl as a receiver.

I feel like I have worked hard to comply with the agreement. It said you must avoid any conflict of interest or the perception of a conflict of interest. It's hard to control that last part. Perception of a conflict of interest could be anything.
