en I think people are wondering whether the old economy can grow at all these days. The new economy is clearly where the great growth is going to be, but they're underestimating what some of the older companies can do.

One of those ways is to attract new companies or operations to our region. The other way is to focus on helping companies who are already here grow and prosper.

en I think people are looking for good value in the market and they're finding it in 'old economy' stocks. What these companies have in common is they're all viewed as great companies at a strong price that are not dependent on a slow economy.

en Technology has the strongest growth rates. These companies grow 20, 40, 50, 60 percent; the broad economy just doesn't grow that fast.

en We like the educational sector. We like select software companies. We like publishing. We like companies that are sort of defensive. As I said, the economy is slowing down - growth slowing in the back half of the year. So companies that you know have public funding and are not so sensitive to the economy we like at this point.

After all, if you look at the companies that issue profit warnings last week; Maytag, McDonald's, I mean I don't think the future of growth of American economy is washing machines or cheeseburgers.

en As a sector, technology will provide earnings growth irrespective of the economy slowing to a point that would impact other companies that are sensitive to the economy one way or the other.

en I think what you want to do is also focus on companies that are making the transition from old economy to new economy because they have 'old-economy' valuations, but are really joining the new economy and should have 'new economy' valuations.

en The realization now is that the economy really is starting to slow down. And we've had figures from certain industries that would indicate that. And so therefore, investors are trying to put their money where gains in growth and earnings will take place, even in a slower economy. The areas that I think have been benefiting, and I think will continue to benefit, are the financial and health care sectors because that has been a traditional growth area. But not at the percentage gains that some of the technology companies have experienced.
