Even when you get ordtak

en Even when you get to Triple-A, there's still steps to go through. I want to get to the Arizona Fall League, I want to do some spring training games. I want to do some fill-in games. You try to take it very slow. One of the things we've been preached to our whole careers ; it's a marathon, not a sprint.

en For anyone training for a fall marathon, whether it be Columbus, Chicago, Detroit ... this is a great series for them to use throughout the spring, the summer and early fall to get them prepared for their marathon.

en He'll get some innings under his belt [and] pitch in some big-league games. Our thought process is to send him to Triple-A, put him in the rotation and have him to continue to develop. If he continues to do well, there's a chance realistically [that] we'll see him in Houston at some point during the season. We don't expect that to happen out of Spring Training. We're going to keep an open mind about it, but realistically, we see him gong to Triple-A.

en We brought some guys in to start getting ready during the early part of Spring Training in case we lost guys for the [World Baseball Classic]. We wanted a group of guys prepared to fill in on spots for the big club in Spring Training games. Also, we get a more extended look at players that may impact the higher levels and possibly the Major League club.

en We had two good games this weekend and we have two games left. I'm pleased overall with the spring we've had and the progress the team has made toward what we want to accomplish in the fall with our new system. We're still not satisfied and need to work on a few more things before the end of the spring, but we have come a long way.

en I get enough workouts outside of the games. It's more than the games right here in spring training. You can't take for granted what happens during the day. Hopefully, you get enough games. The last two or three games I've come in just catching. There are other guys that need to get work in. I know what my role is.

en I can't paint a pretty picture of 0-2, ... We're not going to make it look pretty and say, 'Well, we've been here before, there's 14 games (left), it's a marathon, not a sprint.' But the reality is we do have 14 games to play and we can't panic.

en We have some good games scheduled for the spring that will prepare us for the fall. I'm pleased with the results we had this weekend and the amount of knowledge we gained about ourselves. We still have things we can improve, and we will continue to work on those things in the upcoming games.

en Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. It's all for the best. en (Starting) 0-2 is not the way it's supposed to be and it's not acceptable. We're not going to make it look pretty and say, 'Well, we've been here before. Well, there's 14 games - it's a marathon, not a sprint.

en I love this stuff. At this point, it's not a marathon anymore, it's a sprint. We're running out of games, and every start is critical.

en It's going to be more or less preparing for games and playing in games rather than conditioning and playing in games. We play games but we are still going through Spring Training here.

en We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

en We worked hard this year, and we want to finish up strong, and that's what we're going to do. I don't believe in playing major-league games to just look at people. That's what spring training's for.

en It's spring training and we want to see what's working, there's going to be games or innings where I decide to just work on this pitch or that pitch, even if we get racked around. Six games, there's not a lot of time to work on everything. I've got a job to do and I just need to go out there and do things and get ready to do it when the bell rings.
