en My dad is my everything - my coach, batting instructor, encouragement and motivation. When I go into a situation, I take him with me.

en The whole idea of motivation is a trap. Forget motivation. Just do it. Exercise, lose weight, test your blood sugar, or whatever. Do it without motivation. And then, guess what? After you start doing the thing, that's when the motivation comes and makes it easy for you to keep on doing it.

If everyone received the encouragement they need to grow, the genius in most everyone would blossom and the world would produce abundance beyond the wildest dreams. We would have more than one Einstein, Edison, Schweitzer, Mother Theresa, Dr. Salk and other great minds in a century.

en When I went to my first coaching clinic, the instructor told us not to get a big head because we'd never coach any NHL players. I think about that and say, maybe not an NHL player, but I've got an Olympian under my belt.

en [Olivo praised Padres hitting coach Dave Magadan, who, as a minor league instructor, had given Olivo good grades when the 6-foot, 220-pounder was hitting line drives up the middle for Chicago's Double-A club.] Here, the hitting coach said see the ball and hit it, and swing how you want to, ... That's what I'm doing now.

en What that means is he was in a position of authority, similar to a teacher. His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness. Basically, he was in control of the situation because he was hired as her instructor.

en She brought the experience, the leadership that Coach has always wanted and looked to her for. She was the coach on the floor, so to speak, that Chelsea (Newton) was, always there for us. Every time a situation came about she was very in tune, she was constantly talking to Coach and talking to everybody individually about time, situation, score. I think that was one of the key factors in the success that we have today.

en What we need now is encouragement, support, motivation, vision, foresight, and courage, ... We aren't spending a lot of time looking back. We are looking at what we can do for people today and tomorrow. That's our focus. We're just not going to spend time right now looking backwards.

en I knew I always wanted the chance to play for Danny. When I was with the Edmonton Eskimos and he was an assistant coach with Calgary, I wasn't dressing my first year and he was in the spotter's booth and he'd always tell me: 'It's a good league. Be patient.' Just those little words of encouragement meant a lot. When he became a head coach, I had the urge to play for him just once in my career.

en He takes great pride in it. He's always attentive to the game situation, knows when we're going to probably crank 'er up a little bit more than normal based on the situation. There's no dialogue; he's there before I ever get there. Kind of like you see guys in the Home Run Derby. They bring in their own batting practice pitcher. There's a select comfort you get from somebody.

en I think going to that next step of having a specialist batting coach and a specialist bowling coach would definitely be a benefit to us.

en She's more of a batting coach than most of the coaches are. She picks out every little thing. She's just so intelligent.

en I think the biggest thing is encouragement. We need to find encouragement about what we're doing and why we're doing it.

en Correction does much, but encouragement does more. Encouragement after censure is as the sun after a shower.

en My favorite position is catcher because it gives me the control of the game. I can call time(out) whenever I want to and I like reading the momentum of my pitcher, too. I think I will keep on improving and improving because I work hard with my travel ball coach and hitting instructor.
