en Everyone is still adjusting right now, whether it's the coaches, the players or the goalies. You've taken away one of a defenseman's biggest assets which is their ability to clear the front of the net and protect their goalie. The defense can't play tough in front of their net and the goalies are stuck dealing with the result of that. At some point the league has to do more to protect the goalies before someone ends up getting hurt.

en He's been very strong. And so have our other young goalies, [Kevin] Nastiuk and [Justin] Peters. We've got [Magnus] Akerland in Sweden, and he's still junior age. This is the deepest group of goalies we've had since we moved to North Carolina [from Hartford, Conn., in 1997].

en He's one of the top goalies in the league, no doubt. I don't think he's surprising anyone with how good he is.

en I've always said that Jake is one of the best goalies in this league, and I think deserves this. We don't have a winning record, but Jake is respected in this league, and everyone knows how good he is.

en The good thing is that this is a good learning experience for the young kids who haven't been through this before. Hopefully, we'll get better this spring and get better this summer. Stronger is the key. We've got to get in the weight room. If we don't we're not going to win. This is a strong, physical league.

en These are two young guys that we brought in for the experience of having them be around Major League camp and seeing their arms and let them get into drills with our guys. It's as much us wanting to see them as their experience here. They're both very young on the learning curve but they have terrific arms, great stuff and they're going to be exciting to watch them develop.

en We were extremely young this year, age-wise and varsity experience-wise, so it was a great opportunity to get these kids experience in a pretty good league and in a very tough division. en For a guy with limited experience in the league, this guy has really incredible poise. He's got savvy up on the mound. He has an idea of what he wants to throw. He knows his strengths. Just considering such a young pitcher with very little experience, he's very impressive.

en We're comfortable with Johnson. He's a young kid who has shown us a lot, but hasn't been consistent. But again, he's a young goaltender and age-wise most goalies don't get it going until they are 27 or 28 or 29, so we still have some high hopes for him.

en As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

en He had a chance to experience some success as a very young quarterback in this league, and then he had to experience what it was like to get so close to the Super Bowl, and then lose. But he showed a lot of maturity and smarts by not letting that eat at him. I think he came back this year with his confidence through the roof, and we've seen the results.

en Shari's a player you see who has made tremendous strides in the last couple of years, ... She was always a good college goalie, but there are a lot of good college goalies out there. She's worked hard. She's in peak shape. Coach couldn't ask for more. A lot of it for her is getting experience between the pipes because that position is so mental.

en It's an opportunity for them to get a little bit of big-league experience, see how the guys go about batting practice, ... The way they get their work in. It all fits together. Big league. Instructional league. We're all part of the same organization. These guys are not that far away. Last night is a good example.
