By the time Anniversary ordtak

By the time Anniversary Weekend rolls around (in May 2007), I venture to say that a lot of people will know about what's going on at Jamestown.

I think in many ways we can some up now the one year anniversary of this terrible natural disaster that the emergency relief went better than we feared but the reconstruction and rebuilding is taking more time than we hoped. There was no second wave of death and disease as was feared but too many people have their first anniversary in the same tent they were given in the first months.

Can you do me a favor? Say happy anniversary to my wife, Valerie? Our anniversary is Sept. 11, believe it or not. Our first anniversary, and I'm down here.

Give Jamestown a lot of credit. They are well-coached and they shoot the ball very well. That is one thing about NAIA teams: they may be a little smaller, but they generally shoot the ball well. Jamestown played hard until the end and they never quit. They have a good, young team.

Only after -- concurrent with the welfare reforms that went into effect in 1996 did the welfare rolls drop as much as they did. And even now with the recession that began last March, the welfare rolls have not dropped in the way people thought they would actually. The number of people on welfare has not increased.

As a child I couldn't believe how many people were there for this dinner. As an adult, as far back as I can remember the rolls are the best. My experience has always been I love the spaghetti, I love the salad but the rolls are the best.

The timing of this actually works out really well. By the time June rolls around, the movie people will be long gone, and we'll still have plenty of time to work on the plaza over the summer.

This past weekend was also the fourth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks that killed so many of our fellow citizens.

Mrs Giri had told me about this interesting project. And she'd asked me to help her find the right people to work out the venture. So I simply carried out the initial introductions. I'm glad this venture is finally on its way to being performed. Once the new year rolls around, it will sharply increase. We think it has a lot to do with the fact that people are more scattered in December ... it leaves less time for them to volunteer.

You can't help but think about it. All the families, dealing with this one-year anniversary, it's going to be so tough for all for them. I know they all do different things to help the anniversary pass, and with as little pain as possible.
