We're interested in smart growth and we're looking into nontraditional areas because we're flexible and (our outlets) don't have grills or air ducts. We can go into spots that wouldn't fit other types of restaurants, such as in a car dealership or dry cleaner.

We have created a curriculum that provides active learning opportunities in each of the eight Tutor Time 'Smarts': Word Smart(TM), Math Smart(TM), Body Smart(TM), Design Smart(TM), Music Smart(TM), Nature Smart(TM), People Smart(TM) and Me Smart(TM).

What we did was expand existing areas. We didn't go out and include a new one. When you say smart growth, that doesn't mean no growth.

The original organizers were really smart in organizing an event that focused on the restaurants because of the number of restaurants Downtown.

We took delivery of the Smart Cars over the weekend and have been getting interest everywhere we go -- left, front and center. The biggest problems were the fans under the hood system, which sucks up the hot air and steam and pumps it out of the building. We couldn't use the grills, the ovens or flattop (grills). We can't cook any burgers or French fries without the vents because of health code regulations.

It has been an absolute joy to watch this project come together and see how the community has embraced it. We always talk about smart growth and this is an excellent example of that. This is smart growth defined.

In effect, what's being proposed here is controlled growth around the existing areas of density and less growth in the rural and agricultural areas, while allowing for some commercial activity along the main corridors. This is to prevent sprawl, where growth happens wherever. The county actually had some very positive comments about the ordinance. They said it was cutting edge.
