We never talked about my contract. He said he wants smart players willing to do the little things the right way. I thought I would be one of those guys, but I didn't fit in their plans.

That's one of the things that our team has, we got some smart guys. I thought we could have panicked like we have some games today, and we didn't. That lead kept going down but the free throws really helped.

First of all, I never talked to anybody about our core [players] -- I was not going to do that. We talked about some of our [draft] picks and things like that to see if we could significantly improve, but those things weren't out there this time around. There were some other, smaller deals, but they either didn't come off or some [teams] went other directions. That's what happens.

I can't say that we've talked about it at all (as an organization). I know I thought about it after one of his first starts. At the moment, there aren't any plans to change things.

I think we learned some things about ourselves today. We saw some good things and we saw some things we need to work on. We didn't play a lot of our veterans because we know what they can do. It was nice to see some of our younger players step up and make plays. I thought we really played hard, but that didn't surprise me. Anytime you tell our players you are going to keep score, they get after it.

At this point, he's under contract. You never talk about guys under contract. You get into that, and you're setting yourself up for a no-win situation. But, no, we haven't really even talked about it.

I think it's only smart to retain your own best players first, and then if you have the money and the cap dollars (remaining) to go after free agents. You don't want those guys to ever get to the last year of their contract for fear that you might lose them to free agency.

There are some players out there that agents are looking to place in what they view as ideal situations, ... We're a target for a lot of those players. There are a lot of guys out there that are guaranteed contract-type players. Whether or not we commit to one of those guys is still unknown.

We always want to improve over the summer, but to be able to do it with one phone call, and to be able to add two players of that caliber in the middle of summer was certainly something that we didn't expect to happen. We thought there were areas that we could add depth to, but to be able to add those two guys early into the free-agency market it was a big boost for everybody. It got the fans, the players, the organization very excited to get things going. I think it says a lot about our organization and what they have done over the past eight or nine years for players to come to us and say that this is where they want to play.

I thought we sat back on our heels a lot. We weathered the first storm but they just kept bringing it. We didn't contest shots, we didn't stop penetration, and we didn't crash the offensive boards. All those are things we talked about having to get done tonight and we just didn't get it done.

I didn't quite get the gist of it until after the game. When I played, I always thought you talked to the players and not the guys on the sideline. I'm sure Byron wishes he hadn't done that. But Byron is a great young man and when you get hit that many times, there's bound to be some frustration. It's unfortunate it was caught on TV. But I don't think there's any hard feelings between our teams.

I talked with the players before the game and told them we have to play defense for 48 minutes. I thought our guys did a great job tonight.

We fought through the match. It's just that we were just making so many mental mistakes. I kept telling them, 'Play smart; do smart things.' … We had some things that just didn't go right for us.

We talked about this all week and I felt like I let Duque down. I'm not trying to hurt my pitcher's feelings, but we had a plan before the game starts. Duque didn't throw the ball the way we like him to throw the ball. Most of the balls that got hit were hit hard.
