en From its inception, the festival has been a celebration of reading and literature of the state. It's not an academic conference. And it's been a huge success.

en I really wanted to keep it more as a festival versus an academic conference, more interactive and creative.

en I started toying with the concept of a northeast festival in November of 2004. I didn't talk seriously to anyone about it until January of 2005 I convened the first meeting of the festival team on the first reading day of last spring semester We actually met twice, summit-style, on each of the reading days. Our production team consists primarily of students, and we've been around the block with programming, both on- and off-campus, and we decided we could pull something together that was fantastic and do it right here in our backyard.

en At times of scarcity, Spring Festival for kids was a great occasion to fulfill their simple wish for new clothes and best foods. That is why adults are often nostalgic about their good old times in celebration of the festival.

en I'm thinking of reading something by chef Paul Prudhomme. It's a reading of all kinds of Southern literature.

en We began an aggressive reading strategy through Reading First two years ago in nearly 100 elementary schools with low reading achievement across the state. These efforts, which involve students in the early grades, will show up on NAEP measures in future years, and will give us a roadmap for expanding this approach to providing professional development, building leadership and strengthening reading instruction in more schools in our state.

en If we're not connecting the dots between academic success and academic suspensions, we're missing a very logical connection.

en It's a great celebration. It's our 15th anniversary and we are joining the rest of the world in celebrating Mozart's 250th anniversary. It is also a somewhat bittersweet celebration as it represents my 15th season as director and conductor and my last season with the festival.

en Based on a thorough analysis of the five-year academic results at all 2,850 schools appearing in the Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Elementary Schools, we rated the schools on three categories of academic performance. The awards will be presented to the top school team in each category. Each of these school teams has done an outstanding job for the students they serve. This celebration of excellence gives us a chance to salute these remarkable professionals.

en 'The Feminine Mystique' was huge in terms of its national and international impact on society. It was like a spark on tinder and helped light the fire of the women's movement. It had solid academic foundations even though she wasn't an academic. It was the right book at the right time.
