I don't think I ever played a nine-inning game any year before. I never need to play a nine-inning game. I'm ready to play a nine-inning game now. You saw in the world classic guys are playing nine innings already. We're capable of playing nine innings. Do you want to? No, not in spring training when you can take advantage of the rest period.

The first four innings was probably lowest we've been all year defensively. We didn't play well, but the last three innings we came around. We definitely didn't play our best game of the year.

When a new president takes over, changes in athletic directors aren't uncommon and the same can be said for coaches when there is a change in athletic directors. But when coaches have been successful, it is a stretch.

I think the last two games ? we lost by one run ? they didn't know how to get over the hump. They get caught in the moment. (Today) they didn't worry about the score. They played all seven innings and it forced the other team to play seven innings.

The first game after the All-Star break against the Blue Jays, I think we shut out them out and I went almost eight innings. What we stress from Day 1 is that we play hard until the final out, ... All coaches said it, in some form. Football coaches say, 'Play four quarters.' Basketball coaches say, 'Play 48 minutes.' We say, 'Play nine hard innings.'
