It was a nice season opener in that we had a chance to see some good things and to get some innings for everyone on the team.

I thought to win on the road is a big deal in the NBA, the season opener, almost a brand new team for us, ... We're trying to learn how to play with each other. We're a very deep team, a very veteran team and I'm just trying to find the right combinations out there with guys who are playing well, so it is a terrific win. They had a chance to tie it with three shots at the end and the basketball gods were with us.

Before I got the job, Jon never had the opportunity to go more than six, seven innings. They always pulled him out, and all of a sudden I give him the chance and he took advantage. I think this kid's arm is there. This kid gives 200 innings every year, he never misses a start. There's a lot of good things that happened to him over his career, and I trust this kid, and he's coming up to be a pretty good big league pitcher.

He practiced all the way through, and that's a first. So it's a good sign. He's got a chance (to be ready for the regular-season opener).

I've said all along that the key thing is that we finish up this season on a positive note so that these guys feel good about themselves and feel good about what we can accomplish next year. That's the biggest impetus and with the way we're finishing up, I think everybody feels the same way, that this team has a chance to be a real nice basketball team if we continue to work at it.

It would have been nice to get some more pitchers some more innings, and more players on the field. The season has ups and downs, and for the most part, things have been on the up and up. It's nice to get recognized individually. At the same time, without the team around me it wouldn't have happened. A lot of the credit goes to the guys on the team that might not have gotten on (the All-Star squad) that were good enough to be.

My team didn't quit. They gave it everything they had. We did a lot of nice things in the last three quarters. That is something we can build on. I have a good feeling about this team. If we put in the work then we should be able to win a lot of games. We have plenty of time to turn this season around. We are not discouraged at all.

It was nice to be able to get an ugly win out there. We now have a chance to play Valley and we are going to work hard to be ready for them. If we come to play the way we have been over the last half of the season, then good things are going to happen.

For me it wasn't a surprise. I knew I might not have a chance. Everybody was a step ahead. Well, not one, several steps ahead. This was what could have happened. I'll keep going forward and try to make the team later in the season. ... One of the toughest things was not being able to compete. For now I feel good physically. Maybe by the middle of the season I'll be able to come up.

We've had so many of those kind of innings that went the other way, it was nice to finally capitalize on one of our own. We've had trouble coming up with innings like this, and we've given away too many of them to the other team.

I came here thinking we had a chance to win the championship. Right now, it doesn't look like we even have a chance to win, ... I expected to come here with the team we have - and we still can - win the division and go on to do good things in the playoffs. But right now, I don't know what this team is. I don't know what kind of identity this team has.

Going into the season, we wanted to have as good of a season as possible. We thought we could do some good things, but all of a sudden we're ranked in the top 15 in the state. That's pretty nice.
