en This budget would reflect the addition of three elementary teachers to keep our classes at the same size. Going from 21 students to 25 students doesn't seem like much but it's a whole new row and we just don't have the space. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes.

en There are amateur musicians who want to play with other amateur musicians, and there were students looking for teachers who didn't know how to find teachers. Because here in the shadow of the cultural capital of the world - New York City - there is a certain isolation.

en Most of our students are Spanish-speaking, but regardless of their backgrounds, it's extremely gratifying to help someone learn to speak, read and write English so they can advance in their jobs and be able to talk to their children's teachers and become productive members of our community.

en One of the primary strategies to close the achievement gap is to provide high-quality teachers to students who need them most, and that's precisely what our recommendations are about. Right now those students aren't getting the highest-quality teachers, and until the district addresses that, it will continue to have an achievement gap.
