en It took a while to get into the groove. We had some jitters in the first game, but we got rid of those and it was exciting to beat Linden.

en When you consider that Mifflin lost to Linden (59-58 on Dec. 6), Linden lost to East (38-34 on Jan. 4) and Northland (51-47 on Dec. 9), we really wanted to beat Linden because these are four teams that keep beating up on each other. Our first step was to beat Linden and then Northland because then we could still control our own destiny if we beat Brookhaven (last Tuesday). Our goal is to get to the City League championship game.

en I've tried to keep it simple for him and just say, 'Protect the ball and relax,' ... I don't expect him not to have pregame jitters or not have a ball spray on him here or there. That's happened to every player I've coached. It's hard to get in a groove until you've played enough plays. I'm confident that once he gets into a groove, he will be a heck of a quarterback for us.

en It was the most physical game I've played in since the sectional championship against Linden (last year). There were elbows everywhere. I'm just beat up.

en Our main goal (going into the MLL season) was to beat Linden. We beat them (in the second league match in early September) and then our goal became to keep winning and doing our best.

en We're just trying to mature. We've got a lot of freshmen who really don't know what to expect. The coaches are just trying to calm us down and get us on the right track, but jitters are great. That's why you play this game, to have those jitters and have that opportunity to be successful.

en We didn't have first-game jitters. We had last-three-minutes-of-the-first-half jitters.

en When you go for a change of life -- as in a marriage -- there are going to be some jitters. What you have to determine is: Are the jitters legitimate? Or are the jitters because these two people should not be marrying?

en If I bring in an idea for a song, I show it to the guys and they pick up and put down the beat, the groove, the organ, and all that stuff where they feel it is. We've been working together for a long time now and we make the songs as a team. Everybody has a voice. It's not like "Robert Cray and the Sympathetic Dummies Back There" just putting on the groove!

en We're just heavy. I call us 'groove-rock,' because the groove is just beat, solid and heavy.

en The name of the game is getting an opportunity and showing what you're made of. It's pretty exciting to see people like that get in the groove and show what they're made of.

en We came out in the first inning with a little bit of jitters, and you can't come out with jitters and make a mistake or two against a team like this without being in trouble. I think once we got through the first inning, Lauren (Popov) really settled down and threw a fantastic game.
