I don't think I've ever heard him yell in (the wrestling room) and most coaches get you going by yelling. He just never yells and the reason you want to work your butt off for him is because you respect him so much you don't want to let him down.

I heard a great explanation from Debbie Colberg, the volleyball coach at Sacramento State. She said the reason coaches scream is not for the kids, it is for the adults. If a kid screws up, yelling lets everyone know that, 'I didn't teach the kid to do that.' There's a feeling that I've got to yell or people won't think I am coaching.

Everybody up here in the wrestling room and the coaches especially for putting us through all this conditioning and making us work for our goal.

He is a tremendous leader to this team and his work ethic is outstanding. He is real outgoing and always tries to help others whenever possible. He has definite leadership skills. He might see something that I don't see in the (wrestling) room, and I respect his opinion. That's just part of our relationship. We work well together.

Nah, nah. Coach L doesn't yell. He gets mad. But he'd rather not yell. Sometimes he'll raise his voice, but not to the point of yelling.

I don't yell at him near as bad as I used to. We yell at them a little bit, and then we pat them on the butt. We also tell them how good they're doing at times, too, so it's not all negative. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through.

Robbie brings hard work to our wrestling team. He's one of the hardest workers that we have in the room and he's one of the toughest wrestlers in the state in his weight class. Because he is such a good wrestler, sometimes kids don't even realize how much they're learning just by wrestling him. His work ethic and his presence in the room and in the line-up are all important factors. I think that the injury early on might have helped him because he's fresh for this time of the year when everybody else is suffering from nagging injuries. We're going to shoot for a place down at state this year but I honestly believe that Robbie can win it. You have to set your goals high. I think he's learned from last year. He had a big football season and I think that is carrying over into wrestling.

I knew I had it and then I heard the crowd start yelling. They weren't yelling at me. They were yelling for us. So that's always a good sign.

This is what I work for. This is really what I want to do. I eat, sleep and dream wrestling. Now I understand why I have to be in the [wrestling] room. It's paying off.

If I had thought going in there and yelling at these guys would make them get a hit, I wouldn't be able to talk to you right now. These guys are not stupid. They're trying. They're putting pressure on themselves, but they've got to get over it. What would I yell at them for? For not getting a hit? They're trying. When they quit trying, when they get lazy, I'll yell at them.

It was a very smart thing not to give me a scholarship because I work my butt off for things, and I love to work my butt off for things. As I view it, I'm working right now to get a job. Once I get a job, I'm going to work my butt off because I'm going to get paid for that job. I'm not going to slack off. I wasn't brought up that way.

I heard my coaches (Chris Quick and Fred Miller) yell, 'We need the points, we need the points,' throughout the race.

My dad started me in wrestling. I have been around (wrestling) my whole life. I was born around Christmas and my dad had me in the wrestling room in mid-January.

We came into the locker room and every coach was yelling at us and all four seniors were yelling at us because we want to play at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.
