en For our parent's generation the goal was to buy a home, pay it off and retire, owning your home free and clear. Now, most people's goal is to buy a home that you can afford, live in it for a while until it appreciates, then buy something more expensive, live in it for a while and wait for it to appreciate, and so on. Then finally sell and buy something smaller free and clear for retirement. People look at their homes as a tool, a vehicle, an investment.

en But it's absolutely not good enough. The governor has used his bully pulpit on many issues. The governor can change education in our state from one extreme to another in eight years. Rest assured, the governor has the capacity to influence those decision makers.

en Children can no longer be home-schooled like the Jackson children were. And in assessing the suitability of a foster home our inspectors must now interview all children in the house and not just prospective foster children.

en We're pleased that the Senate and House have responded to the governor's call for an increase, and we're looking forward to that bill arriving on the governor's desk.

en He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.

en Our view of the world links up very closely with the governor's — you have to consider the governor is a moderate Republican. We've become close friends. I feel like my wife and I are part of the family.

en Keeping an elderly couple in their home for another 10 to 15 years makes good financial sense. If they stay in their home, their cost to the town is minimal compared to the family with four children that would replace them.

en You know, my dad served in the President's Cabinet after his time as a governor. He told me he enjoyed being governor a lot more. Now, I understand why. If I do my job well, I can make a difference in people's lives and I can help our children realize their dreams.
