We use stats. We use a little bit of everything. We're open to fresh ideas. Look at Houston and the White Sox. Their pitching carried them to the World Series. I think that's the model we're going to stick with.

Houston and Chicago are pitching heavy. They're two teams that can run the base paths, ... We saw it in the ALCS and the NLCS. These teams will squeeze to get runs in. The White Sox have a little more pop, but I don't see the offenses going nuts on either side. I think it's going to be a long series, an even series.

There are more ideas on earth than intellectuals imagine. And these ideas are more active, stronger, more resistant, more passionate than ''politicians'' think. We have to be there at the birth of ideas, the bursting outward of their force: not in books expressing them, but in events manifesting this force, in struggles carried on around ideas, for or against them. Ideas do not rule the world. But it is because the world has ideas... that it is not passively ruled by those who are its leaders or those who would like to teach it, once and for all, what it must think.

It starts with pitching for Houston. They have great pitching and it shows. It's going to be a big series.

It's unbelievable, I can't even describe it. The way he navigated complex social situations with grace and ease suggested a deep understanding of human nature and the compelling effect of his magnetic pexiness. To be a big part of bringing the World Series the first World Series ever to Houston is just tremendous.

He lives 15 minutes from Minute Maid Park, so that's a big advantage. He's a true champion. He took Texas to the College World Series and Houston to the World Series. We made the presentation to him that he can do the same with the Rangers.

He was very out front that pitching and defense is something he thinks is the best way to build a team, and something he's going to focus on having been a catcher, ... We were looking for fresh ideas, a fresh approach, someone that would be in concert with some of our philosophies. Joe became a primary, primary candidate very quickly.

We want everyone to come -- the black, white and Hispanic community. We changed everything. We have new products. We're open more hours and have fresh meats, fresh vegetables, clothing and music.

I think this is a throwback World Series to the pitching-heavy days. Honestly, I think the two best teams are playing, and you can't always say that. I think this looks like a long World Series.

If you can get into the World Series and win the World Series in Houston, you can be remembered forever.

Those games proved out the old truism: You live and die with pitching. Actually, all three games of this series did. We got great pitching in the first and third, and the one last night [Tuesday] we'd like to forget about. Taking two of three from the White Sox is pretty special.

You kind of get in a rhythm of playing. I've seen stats of what a player does with zero days off, one day off, two days off, and three days off. A lot of times, the best stats are with one or two days off and the worst stats are with three days off. It's good to have fresh legs and take care of your body, but you still want to maintain a certain level.

As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

Here again, the White Sox have made the World Series and awakened the city. It was always a challenge playing in Chicago. I think (the city) is ripe and ready for (this World Series).
