en Jeff was a very integral part of the team, obviously, when we had the good runs there in the Super Bowls. He's an outstanding tight end, and he just happens to be a good long snapper, too. But he's here to be a tight end for us.

en I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

en With those long straights and tight corners, Martinsville is a tough track on the brakes and the motors. It really puts a lot of it on the driver too because it is so mentally exhausting to go run around for 500 laps on those tight turns. We had a good run going in the spring here before we were wrecked, and Kurt has taken the car to victory lane here before. We all know he knows how to run short tracks, so we'll see if he can keep the fenders clean and get a good finish.

en Sears is real doubtful for this week, and I don't know how long it's going to take (to heal), ... He is not going to have surgery, so that's a good thing. en If you have a tight end that can get down the middle, then defenses have got to close the middle. When they do that, your outside receivers are one-on-one. It takes away some of the pressure. The other aspect is that if you have a good tight end, generally the quarterback knows where he is and when he gets into trouble he's got a place to go with the ball. That's the big value.

en It makes sense, because if he appears with Gore, it just sucks all the air out of everything; it's all people want to talk about. . . . Gore is in a tight, tight, tight race, and he's got to make his case himself.
