I think it's fair to say that we left the door ajar for a subsequent formal offer. We wanted to sign Johnny Damon. We made a very strong and concerted effort to do so. We're disappointed.

Johnny was certainly the face of that ball club. They have a lot of great players, but Johnny Damon was the first guy you had to see every night. I took notice of Johnny Damon long before he got to Boston. I always felt he was a special kid.
