It's amazing how investors penalize IBM ( IBM : Research , Estimates ) for the progress they've made over the last few years, ... And, yet they'll pay 100 times revenue for other companies. The second half of this year, it looks very good, very strong for IBM's businesses. I'd continue to buy IBM for portfolios here.

The global economy, ... is showing a very good recovery after a very bad two years. We're seeing rising demand across the board. Two of the companies that we like a lot, Duke Energy ( DUK : Research , Estimates ) and Dominion Resources ( D : Research , Estimates ), are nuclear plays; [they are] also involved now in the natural gas industry, and I think both of these companies are set up to show above-average earnings growth for this group, above-average dividend growth. I think it is a safe place to be in this market.

I think the service industry will see a tremendous amount of growth there. When you have companies like Boeing ( BA : Research , Estimates ) or Motorola ( MOT : Research , Estimates ), they have such clout they can negotiate their own terms of market access. It hasn't been that way for the [Mom and Pop] businesses. They don't have that kind of market clout.

We would try not to trade on a day-to-day basis. If you do that, you're going to lose your hat. We would take a 6-18 month time horizon. Try to find good businesses, reasonable prices. Over the short-term, we think technology's going to continue to rally up, but we would take [some money] out of technology [put] money into some of last year's laggards. The pharmaceutical companies are good businesses, good prices. The financial companies, banks have been maimed last year.

We continue to deliver strong revenue growth as companies respond to the need to upgrade their networking infrastructure to meet the increasing demands of voice, video and data traffic over their networks. Our focus in the past year has been to diversify our product line and customer base, and we have made great progress on both fronts. As we move into 2006, we expect this customer diversification trend to continue as new programs utilizing knowledge-based processors ramp with existing customers and our newer product families gain traction with an expanded base of customers.

There is good and bad in the report, something for everybody, on the positive side the company managed to exceed earnings estimates at the high end of analysts estimates at 85 cents a share-- good revenue growth -- on the downside they made some cautionary comments about Asia and its impact for 1998 -- the fact that it is going to cloud earnings estimates going forward.

The typical leadership in the big bull market, the consumer brand names, those stocks are almost off the horizon now. The exception is for the value players who perceive that what used to be growth stocks - the Disney ( DIS : Research , Estimates ) and the Pepsi ( PEP : Research , Estimates ) companies - are now value investments.

We have made an excellent start to the year with a 20 pct increase in profits in the first half and are well placed to build further on this performance, ... I am confident that we will continue to produce good returns and I look forward to reporting continued progress for the full year.

There have been many exciting new discoveries in Alzheimer research at NIH-funded facilities. But this progress cannot continue unless there is a strong and sustained flow of resources for research. I urge Congress to boost federal funds for Alzheimer's research to $1 billion.

This year is going to be a great year for the semiconductor sector in terms of revenue growth. And we think that next year is going to be good, but the revenue growth rate is going so slow. I think we've known that for well over a year. And it's just that we're getting closer to that point so at what point do you start to let go of some of the gains that you've had over the past year and a half or two years?
