Nashville is a great ordtak

Nashville is a great place and they treat us great. But you don't like going to same bowl game back to back. Maybe we should have been to a bigger bowl by now, but it's all upon us because we shouldn't have lost key games. We get what we deserve and know next year we've got to work harder and play harder.

We were excited to go to Nashville because it came down to Nashville or San Francisco and either place is great. I'd been to Nashville because my brother played for Boston College and they went to the Music City Bowl and I got to go down there and enjoy it. I told the guys it should be a good environment to spend a bowl game.

We did a lot of things this year that we could have worked harder on. There were a couple of games we shouldn't have lost. Next year I hope we come back with a little more effort on and off the court, just a better attitude about working harder.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. That's great for the city of El Paso and the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl is the second-oldest bowl out there behind the Rose Bowl, and that tells you something right there. A lot of bowl games have come and gone since the Sun Bowl has been around.

It's early. It's Game 1. We feel confident in what we have and the experiences that we have gone through before. We don't feel like this is a new thing for us. We have been battling back the whole year. It's been that kind of year for us. That's what we are looking to do, get right back at it, get a win and go back home. Now more than ever it's one game at a time. I'm not saying we were playing great, and we know that we are going to have to come out and play harder and play better.

The hype of a bowl is something you look forward to. It's Christmas time. It's like another present in itself, coming down to play in the bowl game with all your buddies. You're on the road again. And you've got a lot of perks. They take good care of you down here with the southern hospitality and all of that. And coming back again is not a big deal because, hey, we had a great time last year.

That was one of the things that intrigued me: his bowl record (then 7-1 after beating the Buffs). I think both Mike and Barry have great plans for bowl games. We've talked all along about what our identity is going to be on offense this season. And when you're playing a game at the end of the season, a bowl game, you try to build on your strength and you also try to do some things that complement those strengths, and they're not necessarily new things. Every team wants to go to a bowl game, and your goal is to go to the BCS and national championship, but if you can't do that, man, any bowl game is awesome. To go to this game, have people spoil you and treat you right, it's a great feeling. It's the icing on the cake.

We keep coming back in these games and we keep playing harder, harder and harder. But we need to play smarter and do the things that make a difference on the scoreboard. We had many opportunities to win this one.

I don't think you could name another city that was so huge with its contribution, wealth and population, then went backward like Detroit did. We went from big to smaller, and now we're building back up. The Super Bowl will change the conversation about Detroit. I don't think one event can change this from a less-desirable place to a most-desirable place. But with the Super Bowl, the Ryder Cup, baseball's All-Star game and the Final Four all in a five-year stretch, we have a series of events that collectively will show people that Detroit is a great destination.

You play all year to get to a bowl game. You'd rather be playing for a national title, but this is a great step for us in getting this team back to where it belongs.

I love bowl games. I really do. I like it more than the kids do. I grew up a poor kid in western Pennsylvania, and I went to Nebraska because I saw them play in the Orange Bowl and I wanted to play in a bowl game. I cherish the memories.

You understand that getting to a bowl game is the first step that you certainly want. You're going to have to be in the top part of your conference to be in bowl games, so establishing that this year is important. Getting to a bowl game is nice, but you want to win; that's what it's all about.
