en We're covering 1995 to 2005 in one neat package. Most of them were Seattle premieres or Northwest premieres or West Coast premieres when the Film Forum showed them. en Cannes will never be a 300-film festival. The Official Selection represents about fifty [films], no more. [However], a large share of the world's production is presented at the Marche [du Film], the largest in the world.

en It's not that I do not care about it. I've seen it very often in my career. For example, 'Aguirre: The Wrath of God' was refused by the Cannes Film Festival and in the German press it was so badly reviewed that you had the feeling it was the worst film of the decade and it endured the test of time. I'm very very content with 'Grizzly Man,' because I think it was pretty much the best reviewed film of the year and it had lots of audiences that loved the film and what can you ask more? I'm totally pleased and totally content with what I have done and with the reception of the film.

en What I am trying to develop are straightforward commercial Latin films. We plan to go after the commercial side of the film business, and to institutionalize production, so that Spanish actors, writers and directors can see a future.

en So, where's the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?

en We have an extremely competitive roster in terms of quality and quantity. And compared to last year we know each other better and have all been together from the first day of training camp.

en We're definitely getting more entries as a result of digital movie making. Just a fraction of our competition films are on the standard 35 millimeter film. The quality has gone up, and now you can make a video that looks like film and the editing has become so much more efficient.
