From the day it started, it has been an asset to the city and the community, along with the Sea Dogs, Portland Stage (and other attractions). It's more than just a store that sells food. I'd love to see it stay a public market, because it fills the niche. But it has to make financial sense.

The city is not in a position to generate additional financial risk, we don't have dollars on the table. We do have the common goal to keep the franchise here. We know it's a community asset that we care about and if there's a way to make that work and not increase the city's financial risk, we're certainly welcoming those kind of conversations. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy.

A lot of our community does business in both those communities, especially the food processing plants. A lot of them have corporate offices in Boise, the PUD, for example, in Portland. We have found that Portland and Boise have been really good for this community.

Who knows how to make love stay?

Somebody goes to a store and there's only, you know, three brands of hot dogs, they only have three choices to make. They go to a store and there's 100 brands of hot dogs ... now they start getting into the color of the packaging.

This is proof that we want to be known as the city of acceptance. I think these sorts of things mark the civilization of a city; they make it human. They build a sense of community and solidarity.
