I have made it into a practical situation by taking three goalkeepers, six defenders, seven midfielders and five guys up front, so therefore I think there is a lot of balance in the squad,

We played them pretty even in the second half. We were playing defensive against them, but we made a couple of mistakes in the first half. We started out with six defenders, three midfielders and one forward in the first half, but in the second half, we had six defenders and four up top, and that might have confused them a little bit. But they're just so outstanding. They're definitely the top team that we've faced so far.

They made history for themselves. We had strength in depth in the Eighties, top-flight players on the bench. Now, we only have four Premiership players in the squad, and two are goalkeepers.

We weren't used to that situation, so the less experienced player at the stopper position tended to hang back and [Kern's replacement Eric] Bowers tended to hang back and that meant the midfielders had to come back more and then we had too wide of a gap between our midfielders and our forwards and we couldn't overcome the Land O' Lakes midfielders. So we played good defense. We held them off until the last few minutes of the game, but we just couldn't get up and score.

You can never have enough quality front guys. All you've gotta do is have a couple of years where you're not too good up front to teach you the value of being strong on both lines. It's something we never want to have, a situation here where we are weak up front. That being the case, we probably allot more scholarships up front than other schools for that very reason.

When you cut to the chase, that's what defenders are supposed to be about and that's his strength. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. Any time you have a solid presence in the heart of your defense that gives confidence to the goalkeepers and the players around him.

Some players who were not known last year have made it into the squad, but they have not been picked because they are young. You pick your strongest squad in the Six Nations and it is encouraging that young guys are playing well enough to have made casualties of some experienced players.

If the call comes, it comes. But, if not, I'm not going to be too disappointed. We've got eight or nine fantastic midfielders in that squad for Wednesday. Hopefully, they will do us proud.

It's confusing. You watch the guys in front of you — but you're also watching the guys behind you. You get here, and you keep forgetting you're actually out front (by a game and a half) in one of these situations. It's definitely a weird situation to be in.

We have also been able to draw in a number of our very talented Academy players to the first team squad, and I feel the squad has a really good balance to it now.

We ask the kids, what's your job? What's your role? What are you trying to do? The girls are buying into that. Every game our defenders know who they have and what they are going to do and how we need to play them. When our midfielders play certain teams they know exactly what they need to do. ... We just talk about who on our team can make plays and how can we get (the ball) to them.

We are trying to make sure the defense doesn't mess around with [the ball] in the back and get it out. Our midfielders are coming back and showing for our defenders and turning it real quick so we looked good in that regard.

Sara is the most skilled of the three goalkeepers, but they all have different strengths and any of them can play depending on the opponent. Both Jackie and Kristin have made great strides since last fall and all three goalkeepers have the capability to step in and play if they are needed. I think Kristin and Jackie took news of Sara coming here as a challenge and have welcomed the competition.

There will be days when key guys aren't in so we have to be prepared for the situation. We're focusing on not taking any nights off, not taking any plays off.
