This flag is not one that represents an individual state, branch of service or other select group. It is the prisoners of war/missing in action flag that calls to mind the sacrifice and plight of those Americans who have sacrificed their own freedom.

I don't doubt these women have bad experiences. I myself had bad experiences in a monogamous relationship years ago, but that doesn't make me against all marriage.

Whatever their protest was about, what they were attempting to do to the flag - which represents a lot of rights and freedoms that we all have - was wrong for a lot of reasons. Not only does it desecrate the flag, but it also desecrates the effort and the lives that have been laid down to protect those rights and freedoms for all of us.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.

This barbershop being dedicated to a black American soldier also represents something very positive for the community. And I believe in the flag, even if the country doesn't live up to it.
