I don't remember being part of a game that got off to such a bad start and where we were able to come back. I thought it was an incredible test of character. Crystal really challenged our team with a gut-check in our timeout. She was pretty emotional about how to change the level of play.

We got off to a slow start defensively. In a timeout, coach challenged us to a man to get back defensively, not allow easy three-point shots and I thought we did that.

She's thinking about it way too much. It's nice to be able to win games without her, and it really forces people into a situation where they have to bring their game up another level. I think that's the good part, because when we get Crystal back, maybe we'll even be a better basketball team because of it.

They came out firing. It was pretty intense and early on, we were just a little shell-shocked. We called a timeout and talked about it and came back and played our game. Our defense settled down. The kids play with so much heart; we just never give up. It's a neat game to be a part of.

He showed no character on that particular play. I was shocked. I thought he was a better type of person than that. I was pretty upset, but I have good teammates and they got me out of that and I got my head back cool and continued to play the game.

I thought our effort on Wednesday night was excellent. We played another well executed game in both skill and game plan. The energy level was pretty high, and the team play was strong. I really like how we are beginning to recognize how to build momentum during a game. Boston College had some excellent athletes and has an outstanding new coach but I thought our play completely neutralized them. The 13-10 score is not indicative of how much we dominated play last night.

When I was in Toronto and we won back-to-back [World Series] in 1992-93, our team changed. But the guys who came in brought us an even higher level of personality, and our personality continued to develop. Change is part of baseball. It's part of any business. If you don't change, you're stagnant -- and that's not good.

I think that was so incredible of Lindsay to get her team off to that start. She was incredible in attacking and shooting -- just an All-American kind of thing to do to be attacking and to set the tempo for the game. I thought she was very impressive and Liz was really steady.

One thing I think that game did teach us is that we can play with anybody. I told Max that I thought there was nothing wrong with his effort so far in this tournament, but he had been very emotional and it was hurting him on the court. We were fighting our way back, and at some point, we emotionally lost it. This is an emotional game, and a lot of times when you're out there working as hard as you are and not being rewarded for what you're doing, it's tough. You start doing things out of character. I think that's some of what happened yesterday.

We went down to the Slam Dunk with a superstar [Jamison] and high expectations for the season. We had a rough start. We had a team meeting in a cold gym that night when we got back. The guys made a recommitment to play harder as a team. I challenged them to become a team and not to do what you want as individuals.

I thought our team was a little casual to start the game and didn't play with a lot of enthusiasm. Maybe they were looking back on the Ohio State game and anticipating what we're doing on Saturday.
